The Spring 2011 issue of the NCAA’s Champion magazine is now available online.
Emporia State softball pitcher Paige Ladenburger adorns this edition of the NCAA’s official membership publication. A nursing major who is also accomplished on the field, Ladenburger is yet another example of NCAA student-athletes who balance rigorous academic schedules with exceptional performance in athletics competition.
Other profiles in this issue of Champion include Smith Athletics Director Lynn Oberbillig, who has been an integral figure in Division III governance over the years and a central advocate for women’s opportunities in athletics via her service on the Committee on Women’s Athletics.
Goucher Athletics Director Geoff Miller also is featured, as are commissioners Julie Ruppert and Patty Viverito.
The feature stories in this issue include examining derivatives of competitive cheer that are working toward NCAA emerging-sport status, and a look back at some of the more memorable motivational tactics that NCAA coaches have used to inspire their teams before big competitions.
This issue of Champion also looks at athletics department fund-raisers, particularly one at Minnesota Duluth, that collaborate with communities to benefit student-athletes.
