Who is the NCAA?

The National Collegiate Athletic Association consists of over 1,200 colleges, universities, conferences, and non-profit amateur athletic organizations who serve as our membership. The volunteer representatives from these members carry the responsibility of introducing and deciding upon issues impacting the overall welfare of every student-athlete.

Enhancing your experience and safeguarding the integrity of college sports is the primary function of the presidents, athletic directors, commissioners, senior woman administrators, and faculty and athletics representatives from member schools as they vote on rules and regulations.

The national office is responsible for implementing the rules established by the membership. Staffed by over 350 employees who work in Indianapolis, the national office provides counsel to the NCAA member representatives throughout the decision-making process. It also oversees the distribution of the funding it receives from a variety of sources such as media contracts and championship tickets to its member institutions—94 cents of every dollar generated by the national office is redistributed to its membership through funding, programs and championships as a means to help enrich your college experience.
